Assam, in the north east of India, is the most advanced and accessible state in the Northeast. Agriculturally very fertile, Assam is full of rice paddy fields, produces about 15% of of world's total output of tea (Assam Tea being a brand name in its own). It also produces more than half of India's petroleum. Assam is also famous for its silks such as Paat or Muga. Creatures of endangered and rare species like one horned rhinoceros, golden langurs, gangetic dolphin, clouded leopard can be found in Assam. This draws many tourists to the state.

Guwahati
Is considered as the gateway to the north-east region of the country, it is known as Land of Eastern Light. Located on the bank of the Brahmaputra River, Guwahati is also the largest city of Assam. It is believed that the city was the ancient land of Kamarupa. In this ancient land, the Hindu god of beauty, fertility and source of life was reborn. Guwahati Planetarium, Bhubaneswari Temple, Peacock Island, Kamakhya Devi temple are the popular attractions here.
Kaziranga
Kaziranga National Park is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Kaziranga is also famous for the Important Bird Area by Birdlife International for conservation of avifaunal species. Some of the bird species which can be spotted here are herons, storks, pelicans, imperial eagles. Kaziranga is a home to large breeding population of elephants, wild water buffalo and swamp deer. Every year, an Elephant Festival is organized at the park to create awareness about the protection and conservation of Asiatic elephants.
Jorhat
The name Jorhat comes from the amalgamation of two words – ‘Jor’ which means ‘two’ and ‘Hat’ which means ‘market’. Apart from being a part of the Ahom Kingdom’s end, the city is known for its tea plantations. It also has the oldest tea research centre in the world- Tocklai Research Association. The city of Jorhat is often referred to as ‘the cultural capital of Assam’ because of the cultural diversities in the region. Popular attractions are Thengal Bhawan, Raja Maidam, Gibbon Wildlife Sanctuary.
