History
This luxury train is the result of the success of Palace on Wheels, therefore, the concept, itineraries, design and facilities of the train is inspired from the luxury train. Royal Rajasthan on Wheels commenced its royal journey in January 2009. The royal train is a joint venture of the Indian Railways & Rajasthan Tourism Development Corporation (RTDC). The train promises to serve the best of hospitality and the elegance of the bygone era.

With effect from September 2017, the Royal Rajasthan on Wheels is being discontinued and its carriages shall replace the old carriages of the Palace on Wheels. Its 7 nights tour including, Rajasthan- Agra- Varanasi -Khajuraho shall be terminated and the train will now be operating as a part of the Palace on Wheels Tour covering Delhi-Agra-Rajasthan; where it takes you to the glorious Taj Mahal and the splendid Forts & Palaces of Rajasthan.

This princely saloon is especially designed for spacious living with the comfort of royal suite. Some basic features of this suite include silk and velvet bedsheets, perfectly carved wooden furniture, ottoman, sofa-chairs, writing table and colour-coordinated draperies. It is named after the Emerald and Diamond, the two precious stones.
This serves as your personal imperial chamber, especially meant for the contemporary style living. History
Deccan Odyssey was an initiative of the Maharashtra Tourism Development Corporation (MTDC). MTDC joined hands with the famous Taj Group of Hotels and created the magnificent Deccan Odyssey. Well equipped with all the modern amenities, this luxury train offers a truly wonderful experience.
Though the Railway Ministry signed a MOU for the luxury train with MTDC in February 2001 but it received a green signal by the ICF (Integral Coach Factory) only in May 2002. The design for the train coaches was finalized in five months. It took another five months to complete their construction. Finally this luxury train started its first journey on January 16th, 2004 from Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus(CST)Mumbai.

The train offers 21 coaches, out of which 13 are for passengers. These coaches are named after the historical monuments and different sites of Maharashtra. The fully air-conditioned deluxe saloons include 4 cabins with each saloon.
There are 4 Luxury Suite Cabins, 24 Twin Bedded Deluxe Cabins, 5 Double Bedded Cabins,14 Triple Bedded Cabins and 1 Cabin For Physically Challenged. Two-power Generator cars and Three Staff cars for on board staff are also available.
