Udaipur: the most romantic spot on the continent of India
Lauded for its Rajput era palaces, Udaipur is located in the beautiful state of Rajasthan. It was formerly known as the capital of the princely state of Mewar. Its enthralling beauty and epiphanic ambience has resulted into it being called 'the City of Lakes,' 'Kashmir of Rajasthan' and 'the most romantic city of India.' Located near to the shimmering Lake Pichola, Udaipur is surrounded by the majestic Aravalli Hills.
Colonel James Tod, the first political agent of the East India Companyhad called Udaipur as the most romantic spot on the continent of India. Maharaja Udai Singh had founded Udaipur in 1559. The lush green landscapes of Udaipur offer a complete contrast to the deserted and arid regions of the North-western part of Rajasthan.
Following are the main attractions of Udaipur
City Palace: It took more than 400 years to build this royal palace. Different Kings from several dynasties contributed to its construction. Though it was Maharana Udai Singh who started the construction in 1559. There are several exquisite palaces that are constructed within the palace. It is known for the fusion of Mughal and Rajasthani architecture. Currently, the City Palace is called as the largest royal complex, ever constructed in Rajasthan.
Lake Palace: The luxurious, grandiose and palatial Lake Palace hotel contains 83 suites and rooms. The white marble walls, scenic ambiance of the Lake Pichola and the jetty rides are the main attractions of the Lake Palace. Maharaja Jagat Singh II had built it in between 1743-1746. It is also called as Jag Niwas. It was the most sought after summer resort for the royal Kings.
Jag Mandir: It was constructed on an island in Lake Pichola in 1551. It is fondly called as the 'Lake Garden Palace.' Maharana Amar Singh had initiated its construction. In order to commemorate Maharana Jagat Singh, it is called as 'Jag Mandir.' Initially, it was considered as the best destination to hold lavish parties. The elegant palaces, façades and courtyards constitute the Jag Mandir.
Fateh Sagar Lake: Fondly called as the pride of Udaipur, the city of lakes, Fateh Sagar Lake is an artificial Lake. It was constructed by Maharana Jai Singh in 1687. It was reconstructed by Maharana Fatah Singh in 1888. There are three islands interspersed within this lake, which include the Udaipur Solar Observatory, Nehru Park and a public park.
Saheliyon ki Bari: It is also known as the 'Courtyard of the Maidens.' The marble elephants, fountains, kiosks and the lotus pool are the main attractions of Saheliyon ki Bari. It is located on the banks of the Fateh Sagar Lake.

Travellers can explore nearby cities such as Ranakpur (90km), Kumbhalgarh Fort (94 km), Chittorgarh ( 116km) and Diwara (162km).
