Vijayawada: The Land of Interlacing Canals

Situated along the banks of the holy River Krishna, Vijayawada, formerly known as Bezwada, is the third largest city of Andhra Pradesh. Famous for its intricate canals, the city is often compared to Venice. Vijayawada is not only scenic but also holds religious significance, with beautifully fashioned temples scattered across the city.

The city's history reflects the rule of the Chalukyas of Kalyan and the great king Krishna Deva Raya. The sage Agasthya, a devotee of Lord Shiva, is said to have worshipped here. The origin of Kanaka Durga Devi is unknown; she is considered Swayambu (self-manifested). Foreign travelers, including Huien Tsang, have visited this historic town. Enveloped by the Indrakiladri Hills and watered by the Budameru River, Vijayawada is a serene getaway for travelers.
