Panchgani Hill Station

Panchgani

Overview
Panchgani: The Quaint Hillock of Maharashtra

Cuddled in the middle of five hills of Sahyadri mountain range, Panchgani offers a  breath-taking view of Krishna river on one side and coastal plains on the other. It derives its name from the five or 'panch' hills around it. Ghatjai Devi is the patron goddess of Panchgani.

The hillock was discovered by the Britishers in 1863 during their rule in India. Sir John Chesson was placed in charge of the hill station and he is also credited for planting many western plant species here. Silver oak and poinsettia have since then embellished the green legacy of Panchgani. It was chosen as summer retreat by the Britishers because of the pleasant weather conditions throughout the year.
