Some of the famous weekend destinations in Central India that gives you a respite from your busy mundane life are:

Panchmahri
Panchmahri is a lovely hill resort that offers one tranquility. This saucer shaped hill station is fondly known as Queen of Satpura ranges. Scenic sites, waterfalls, large mountain ranges and green hillocks- the place mesmerizes all with its natural splendor. The beauty of Panchmahri has also been described in the book The Highlands of Central India. It is the highest point in Central India region. The main attraction of this hill resort is the sunset. The main attractions here are Handi Khoh, Pandava caves, Mahadeo hills, bee falls and so on.

Mandu
Mandu is famous for forts, palaces and architectural wonders. Once called the city of joy now is a ruined city. Mandu is known for its Islamic architectural buildings and monuments. It is also famous for its fort that is perhaps the biggest in India. Do try the Khusrani Imli, the tamarind trees which bear fruit in rainy season and the juicy custard apples. The famous tourist places here are the 3 main groups- The Royal Enclave, the Village group and the Rewa Kund group.

Ujjain
Ujjain is one of the ancient cities of the country and one of the 7 sacred places to attain Moksha. The city is a great pilgrimage centre as it is an abode to one of the Jyotirlingas. According to Hindu mythology during the  Sagar Manthan, a drop of nectar spilled over Ujjain making it a sacred place. It is also famous for the Kumbh Mela. When in Ujjain, do not miss Bade Ganeshji ka Mandir, Gomti Kund, Bhartruhari caves, Kalideh palace and so on.

Bastar
Bastar is a major tribal region known for its flora and fauna. The main tourist attractions here are the waterfalls with Chitrakoot being the largest. Other important are Mandawa, Tiratgarh and Chitradhara. There are also many scenic spots here- Bhainsa Dhara and Dalpat Sagar. It is also home to a religious attraction- Danteshwari temple. The famous Bastar tourist attractions are Kutumsar caves, Bastar palace, Kailash Gufa, anthropological museum and many more.

Kanker
Widely known as the place full of natural beauty and place has immense archaeological significance. Kanker has plenty of historical sights to visit. The tribal society of Kanker is famous for making exotic handicrafts. Kanker has its reference right from the Stone Age. The main tourist attractions here are Gadiya mountain, Charre Marre falls, Hanuman temple, Kanker Masjid, Kanker royal palace and so on.
